가보지 못한 곳으로 여행을 할 때 경험하게 되는 느낌이 있다. 시각과 청각과 촉각이 모두 활짝 열려, 그곳에서 흘러나오는 신호들을 예민하게 포착하면, 단정하게 처리할 수 없을 정도로 흘러넘치는 정보에 압도된 마음은 그것을 경이로움으로 해석한다.
낯선 곳으로의 여행을 꿈꾸는 마음은 기억으로 치환된 첫 만남의 감각적 환희를 다시 경험하고픈 바람때문일지도 모른다.
하지만 여행지가 익숙해지고, 그곳에 일상이 들어서면 예민했던 감각도 무뎌지고 만다. 그곳은 더 이상 환희로 가득찬 곳이 아니라, 햇빛에 선명함을 잃고 바래버린 인쇄물처럼 흐릿해진 것처럼 느껴진다.
그리하여 우리는 다시 어디로 가야할지 고민하는 것이다.
때로는 강렬한 에너지를 품은 사건들이 생겨나서, 채도를 잃은 채 무딤의 시공간이 되어 있던 일상에 그동안 잊고 지냈던 경이로움을 다시 채워놓기도 한다.
그 환희에 흥얼거리지만, 나는 다시 묻게 된다.
